Should You Go On Vacation While Pregnant?

Whether it’s a chill, golden beach vacation or more of an explore the city and run around type of vacation, is it a good idea to vacation while pregnant?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The decision to travel, especially in your third trimester depends on several factors, including your health, the type of trip you're planning, and your doctor's recommendation.

Let's explore some things to consider:

Doctor's Approval

This is the most crucial factor. Discuss your travel plans with your doctor well in advance so that they can assess your health, advise on potential risks, and provide a doctor's note for airlines if necessary.

Comfort and Energy Levels

Traveling while pregnant (depending on how far along you are) can mean dealing with fatigue, backaches, discomfort, and a lot of bathroom breaks. I would recommend opting for shorter trips with comfortable accommodations and activities that don't require excessive exertion to make the vacation enjoyable for everyone involved!

Destination Risks

Wherever you’re thinking of going, be sure to research your destination thoroughly. Consider factors like altitude, disease outbreaks, and access to quality medical care.

Travel Logistics

Be realistic about travel logistics. Choose destinations with direct flights if possible, the plane isn’t exactly going to be comfortable for you at this time. Pack light and comfortable clothing, and don't forget essentials like maternity support garments and healthy snacks.

Travel Insurance

If you choose to travel while pregnant, I would recommend investing in comprehensive travel insurance. This can provide financial protection in case of unexpected medical emergencies or travel disruptions.

Quality Time With Your Partner

Before the whirlwind of newborn life arrives, a getaway can be a precious opportunity to reconnect with your partner, enjoy some quality time together, and create lasting pre-baby memories.

Alternatives to Long-Distance Travel

If a long-distance vacation seems daunting, there are some other exciting options for a vacation too!

You can always do a staycation. This means exploring your local area and all that it has to offer, as if it’s your first time there! Discover hidden gems close to home, minimize travel stress, and allow easy access to familiar comforts.

You can also check out babymoon resorts. There are several resorts out there that cater specifically to expecting mothers, they offer prenatal massages, healthy dining options, and activities designed for relaxation.

If you’re feeling that urge to get out and try something new, but you don’t want to travel while pregnant, you could also try an at home spa day! I did lotsss of these while I was pregnant and I fell in love with them. Order yourself a Rumbly box and once it arrives at your doorstep, your pampering begins!
