Self-Care Routines to Add to Your Pregnancy (and Why it Really Matters)

Among all the things on your pregnancy to-do list, you probably forgot one really crucial one: taking care of YOU! Here are six self-care routines that are sure to help and why they really make a difference!

Self-Care Routines to Add to Your Pregnancy

If you're looking for someone to give you permission to add more self-care to your pregnancy, this is it. ADD MORE SELF-CARE TO YOUR PREGNANCY!

Sorry for shouting, but we're really passionate about this! So many women feel overwhelmed and undersupported through their pregnancies - in fact, our poll told us it was 83%. We want to change that! We want to turn away from our bump-centric pregnancy norms and remind women that they are not secondary during this major life event.

We want women to focus on taking care of themselves, prioritize themselves and honour themselves throughout their entire pregnancy and motherhood journey. We know that this not only creates healthier, happier pregnancies but also helps to build a stronger foundation for everything that follows.

Science agrees that self-care during pregnancy is important. It can help reduce stress, fatigue, and other common discomforts associated with pregnancy that typically leaves their mark for a long time into postpartum and the early years of motherhood.

So, go grab a cup of your favourite tea and fuzzy socks (or whatever it is that gets you feeling cozy) as we walk you through some of the top self-care practices and routines to add to your new day-to-day. We will also explain the impact of incorporating each of these activities into your daily pregnancy life because, let’s be honest, we all could benefit from having a healthier and easier pregnancy experience.

Drink more Water

Why it matters

Staying hydrated is essential during pregnancy. Not only will it help keep your energy up, but drinking enough water can also reduce the likelihood of constipation. Make sure you are drinking 8-10 glasses a day!

How to add it to your routine

Having a handy water bottle with you at all times is a great way to stay on top of your water intake. Fill up your bottle in the morning and (if you need to) set daily reminders to drink water throughout the day. (Our  best-selling,  24 oz studded tumbler  that comes in our Modern Mom-To-Be box makes staying hydrated on-the-go both stylish and easy!)

Eat Healthy Snacks

Why it matters

Eating nourishing snacks between meals will help keep your energy levels up and provide your growing baby with the nutrients they need.

How to add it to your routine

Make sure that healthy snacks are readily available so that you don't have to scramble to see what's in your fridge or pantry when hunger strikes. Keep nutritious snacks like fresh fruits, vegetables, granola (or nuts and seeds) and protein bars on hand for easy access.

Get Regular Exercise

Why it matters

More and more people realize that pregnancy is not a reason to stop moving! It can help ease common discomforts like back pain and swelling, plus boost energy and mood levels! And don't forget physical activity is great for preparing your body to give birth.

How to add it to your routine.

You shouldn't go from 0 to 60 when it comes to working out.  Start off slowly with low-impact activities like walking, swimming or prenatal yoga. In our Month #5 Pregnancy Subscription box, we have these totally chic and loveable pregnancy wrist and ankle weights that help in adding just a little extra to your walks or yoga routines. Basically, they make doing whatever you do feel like you’re doing wayyy more (and we’re totally here for that 😉)!

Connect with a community of other moms-to-be

Why it matters

Having a support system during pregnancy is an invaluable experience. You’ll have people to talk to if you ever feel overwhelmed who can offer advice and share their experiences with you. It's also great for helping connect you to trusted resources that can guide you through your pregnancy journey - like our community of rumbly moms!

How to add it to your routine

With so many virtual communities out there, finding a space that makes you feel comfortable, seen and supported is less challenging than ever before. You might have to try out a few until you find one that fits your vibe, but we promise you will eventually find one! Each of our Subscription and Standalone Theme boxes also includes a personal letter of love from us to help you stay more grounded, make sense of all that’s happening to (and around) you and know that whatever choices you make or are going through, we are here for you!

Take care of your emotional health

Why it matters

Being pregnant can be an emotional rollercoaster and it's important to stay on top of your mental health. Part of our mission at rumbly is to help more women learn about matrescence - the process of becoming a mother - and take time to reflect on what that means. We want you to reclaim what motherhood means to you - and not to anyone else.

And we want to give women space to share the sides of pregnancy that people don't seem to want to talk about (and of which they don’t really understand), and to support every woman's emotional needs more during pregnancy and the early years of motherhood.

How to add it to your routine

Making and setting aside time for yourself each day is essential - whether that’s reading, meditating, listening to a podcast, working out, bingeing your favourite TV show, scrolling TikTok or anything else that makes you feel refreshed and recharged.

Sometimes, though, life can move so fast. You blink, and it’s another day, week or month already gone. If you’re having a hard time finding the time to make it happen, get out your calendar and schedule it in there!

Get your rest!

Why it matters

Getting enough rest during pregnancy is important for both you and your baby. It can help reduce symptoms like fatigue, headaches, backaches and shortness of breath. Plus, a good night's sleep will help keep you feeling energized throughout the day.

How to add it to your routine

Creating a bedtime routine is key to getting enough sleep. Aim to get in bed and start winding down at least an hour before you plan on sleeping - that means no screens or strenuous activity! And if you have trouble sleeping, try using some of the calming products we feature in our Glow and Subscription boxes – like the So Luxury Magnesium oil that we include in our Month #7 Subscription box.

Let us pamper YOU - both the woman you are and the mom you're becoming

Self-care doesn't have to be a day-long spa event (although, if you have the time, go for it!). Instead, focus on simple and small you can do every day. Why not get a new lip balm, paint your nails, or apply the gallinée face mask & scrub before bed that we include in our Month #6 Subscription Box? (Note: we especially love this product for its pregnancy-safe instant radiant boost. In just 5 minutes you can achieve a noticeable difference! Count us in!)

At rumbly, we are here for you. Both for the woman you are and the mom you're becoming. Our boxes are thoughtfully curated and tested to take your self-care to a new level. Featuring products from other innovative, amazing female-founded companies located all over the world (plus our own rumbly exclusives), our goal is to ensure you have everything you need to get through the day and beyond. So go ahead, take care of yourself. You deserve it!
