What To Do If You JUST Found Out You’re Pregnant!

Step 1: Confirm the Pregnancy

The first step is to confirm your pregnancy through a reliable pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests can provide accurate results, BUT it’s always a better idea to take the most exciting visit to your doctor ever for professional confirmation before you spill the good news to everyone! It’s better to be safe than sorry with something as life changing as this!

Step 2: Schedule a Prenatal Appointment

Once you have confirmed your pregnancy, schedule an appointment with an obstetrician or midwife! Early prenatal care is superrr important for a healthy pregnancy. Your healthcare provider can help you with everything you need to know from diet and lifestyle to addressing any concerns or questions that arise. There are so many options out there these days for ways you can best support your baby’s healthy growth, so allow yourself the opportunity to explore them. I used to feel SO good when leaving my prenatal appointments with all my questions answered. 😌

Step 3: Research

I found that doing my own research and educating myself made me feel super confident throughout my pregnancy. Take the time to do your own research on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Take answering all your questions into your own hands to compare your research to what your healthcare provider says as well. Learning about the journey you’re starting to embark on is SOOO exciting! Understanding the changes happening in your body as your baby reaches their developmental milestones is truly a beautiful experience. Knowing exactly what’s going on in your body and what to expect in the months to come can bring you peace.

Step 4: Spill the Tea

Once you’ve decided it’s time for the big announcement...you can make it as fun or as chill as you want!

Will your mom cry? Is your sister going to jump for joy? Will your partner faint? Anticipating the reaction of your loved ones to such incredible news like being a new mom-to-be is so exciting.

Decide when and how you want to share the news with your partner, family, and friends and get to planning! This part is SO fun. 😫

You could wrap your positive pregnancy test in a gift box, write “I’m Pregnant!” on some cupcakes, or announce it during a family game night. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you surround yourself with a supportive network who can offer guidance and encouragement throughout your pregnancy journey. It really does take a village!

Step 5: Planning

It’s never a bad idea to be more prepared than necessary. Consider planning anything you’d need to change in your life in preparation for your little one, including finances and living space!

For a lot of expecting parents, finances can be a stressor. If you can begin financial planning as soon as possible, you can avoid as much stress as possible. Consider things like medical expenses for the baby, time off work (explore maternity/paternity leave options), baby gear (anything that wasn’t gifted to you from your baby shower of course 😉).

As you progress through your pregnancy, start thinking about your birth plan. Do you want an at home birth? Or would you prefer to go to the hospital? Who do you want in the delivery room with you? You know, those types of things! You can also start planning childcare options for when you are ready to go back to work.

Creating a plan for the future will help ease some of the uncertainties associated with becoming a parent.

Step 6: Self-Care

Your mom-to-be self-care prioritization starts NOW!

Pregnancy can bring a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s essential to prioritize your emotional well-being right from the very start. Don’t hesitate to seek support from loved ones, join prenatal classes, or even consider speaking with a counselor or therapist if needed.

The better care you take of yourself, the better care you can take of your baby! When I was pregnant, I began to see myself as nothing but a baby-carrying vessel.
